Washington and Lee Law LLM Program
The Master of Laws (LLM) program at Washington and Lee University is offered to international students, and does not consist of any pre-defined specialty concentrations (such as taxation, or securities law). Instead, students are free to take the courses available at Washington and Lee University School of Law that suit their interests and career goals.
As stated above, the courses taken during the Washington and Lee University LL.M. Program are chosen by each individual student. All courses are offered at the university’s campus in Lexington, Virginia, which is three hours southwest of Washington, D.C. As of this writing, the program is not offered online or on a long-distance basis.
The program continues for two semesters, and each student must complete 24 credit hours of instruction. Because the program is geared towards international practitioners, the program includes training in legal research methods and tools that are used in the U.S. Students in the LLM program take the same classes as those students in the J.D. program, and are graded under the same standards. In order to graduate, a student in the LLM program must achieve a grade point average of C+ or better.
Courses offered cover a wide variety of topics in the areas of business law, litigation, international law, taxation, and environmental law. International practitioners will find interest in the course catalog, including courses in Transnational Law, International Commercial Litigation, and Arbitration to Human Rights.
