University of Utah Law School LLM Program
The University of Utah LLM program is a full-time one-year post-graduate law program specifically in environmental and natural resources law. The LLM program is appropriate for both U.S. J.D. holders and international lawyers with equivalent foreign degrees who want advanced study in topics such as international environmental policy, energy, public lands, and natural resources at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. Requirements for international students pursuing the degree consist of the completion of a total of 24 credit hours with a cumulative B- average, including the 2-credit course Introduction to U.S. Law taken pass/fail, one 3 to 5 credit course in basic U.S. law, and the remaining 15 credits chosen from approved courses in environmental, natural resource, and international law (graduates of U.S. law schools must take 17 credits and do not have to take the foundation courses in U.S. law). In addition, a seminar requiring a writing and research project (which can also be applied to 15 credits) must be taken by the student prior to graduation. Alternatively, students can fulfill this seminar requirement by doing a thesis project of anywhere between 6 and 12 credits, with school approval.
